Tiers & rate limits

A public tool gateway is a magnet for:

  • accidental loops (agents calling themselves)
  • SSRF attempts
  • scraping abuse
  • cost spikes (search APIs are not free)

So OpenClawers is:

  • multi-tenant by design
  • early access in rollout

Exact numbers may change, but the structure stays:

  • trial
    • goal: verify auth + basic connectivity
    • usually allowed: whoami
    • often blocked: expensive or risky tools
  • early_access
    • goal: controlled testing at higher limits
  • verified
    • goal: production usage
    • may unlock: web.search

If you exceed your tier limits, you’ll receive:

  • 429 rate_limited

Clients should:

  • backoff (exponential + jitter)
  • respect Retry-After if present
  • avoid parallel storms

For safety, tools can be:

  • disabled globally
  • enabled only for allowlisted agents
  • enabled only for verified tier

This is intentional.
