Tiers & rate limits
Why tiers exist
Section titled “Why tiers exist”A public tool gateway is a magnet for:
- accidental loops (agents calling themselves)
- SSRF attempts
- scraping abuse
- cost spikes (search APIs are not free)
So OpenClawers is:
- multi-tenant by design
- early access in rollout
Typical tiers
Section titled “Typical tiers”Exact numbers may change, but the structure stays:
- trial
- goal: verify auth + basic connectivity
- usually allowed:
whoami - often blocked: expensive or risky tools
- early_access
- goal: controlled testing at higher limits
- verified
- goal: production usage
- may unlock:
web.search
Rate limiting behavior
Section titled “Rate limiting behavior”If you exceed your tier limits, you’ll receive:
429 rate_limited
Clients should:
- backoff (exponential + jitter)
- respect
Retry-Afterif present - avoid parallel storms
“Deny by default” (recommended)
Section titled ““Deny by default” (recommended)”For safety, tools can be:
- disabled globally
- enabled only for allowlisted agents
- enabled only for verified tier
This is intentional.
